Picture a concert stage: strobes cutting through smoke, phones waving, musicians moving. Most smartphone sensors either blow out the highlights or turn shadows into smudges. Sony says the LYTIA L910 changes that. It reaches for cleaner detail in both bright spots and deep shadows without stitching multiple exposures together.
The LYTIA L910 is a 1/1.28-inch stacked CMOS sensor offering roughly 50 effective megapixels with 1.22μm pixels. Its headline number is a single-exposure dynamic range of up to 100 dB. That matters because capturing wide dynamic range from one exposure avoids the ghosting and flicker that come from merging several frames when subjects or lights move.
What LOFIC and triple-read HDR actually do
Sony combines a LOFIC (low field-induced charge) architecture with Triple Conversion Gain HDR readout. Instead of taking separate short, medium and long exposures, the sensor reads the same exposure at three conversion gains. The result: highlights are preserved with less clipping and shadows hold more texture. It’s a subtler kind of improvement, not flashy, but noticeable when you zoom in on a nightscape or a backlit portrait.

The company also rolled out an Ultra High Conversion Gain circuit to squeeze more charge-to-voltage efficiency from each pixel. Sony claims random noise falls by about 30 percent compared with the previous LYTIA 828 sensor. That’s the sort of reduction that turns grainy crepuscule shots into usable images, especially under LED streetlights and mixed lighting where color casts and banding often appear.
For video, the L910’s optimized circuitry trims power draw so phones can record 4K HDR at 60 frames per second while sustaining a high dynamic range. On the stills side, the sensor can output full-resolution 50-megapixel frames at up to 30 fps, or push smaller 12.5-megapixel frames at 120 fps for burst and slow-motion needs. Those are practical specs for flagship camera modules today.
So what will phone makers do with this? Expect improved night shots and more stable HDR video when bright lights and motion collide. The LYTIA L910’s approach favors clean, single-shot captures over multi-frame tricks, which should appeal to manufacturers chasing consistent, real-world results for handheld shooting.
Sony plans mass production shipments in summer 2026. Industry whispers point to the Vivo X500 series and the Oppo Find X10 lineup as likely early adopters, which would put this sensor into mainstream flagship pools within months of ramp-up.
Technical leaps like LOFIC plus triple conversion gain rarely dominate headlines, but they change what photographers can do with a single frame. Expect more usable night photos and fewer compromises between highlights and shadows when these modules land in phones.
