Tesla has postponed the Roadster's outdoor hover demonstration at SpaceX's McGregor test site from October 1 to October 15, citing severe weather forecasts for central Texas.
The company pointed to forecasts of rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts on October 1. That forecast matters because Tesla planned an unmanned display at SpaceX's rocket site near Waco designed to lift the Roadster off the ground using a SpaceX-developed cold-gas thruster package, with nobody in the car and spectators kept at a distance.
Demo plan and the schedule change
Organizers had scheduled the event outdoors at the McGregor test facility. According to published forecasts, the adverse weather is expected on October 1, but models show conditions clearing within two days. Despite that shorter window, Tesla set the new date for Thursday, October 15, a full two weeks later.
Some observers note the decision comes amid a long history of Roadster postponements. While Tesla attributes this shift to weather, the gap between the forecast's likely improvement and the revised date has prompted scrutiny among commentators following the project.
The October 15 date is now the next firm public milestone for the Roadster and the widely publicized hover demonstration using the SpaceX cold-gas thruster system.
