Trump Creates 'AI Force' Modeled on Space Force Plan

President Donald Trump announced he is creating an 'AI Force' modeled on the Space Force and said he will appoint a new AI czar.

Trump posted the announcement on Truth Social and described safety warnings about new technologies as a Democrat deception, saying the czar will be reserved for people with very high IQs.

He has not released operational details or a timeline for the new unit. Tech investor David Sacks previously held the role Trump referenced until earlier this year, when Sacks moved to co-chair the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Trump said initial attacks targeted data centers, then shifted to artificial intelligence after the centers proved profitable and beneficial to local communities. Both Republican and Democratic officials have raised concerns about data center energy use, and New York has recently paused permits for large projects.

Trump also proposed renaming artificial intelligence, offering suggestions such as "Superior Intelligence," "Extreme Intelligence," and "High Intelligence."

The announcement arrives amid intensified debate over AI safety. A senior researcher at Anthropic resigned citing concerns that the technology could cause deadly harms by the end of the decade, prompting Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to propose measures to slow progress; that proposal has drawn support from figures including Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has expressed views similar to Trump, calling efforts to slow AI development an illusion for reducing progress.

Trump has not provided a legal framework or timetable for establishing the AI Force or the authority and duties of the proposed AI czar.
