Xiaomi 18 Pro's Dual 200MP Cameras Include 3.2x Periscope

Xiaomi says the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max pair a Leica 200MP primary rear sensor sized 1/1.28 inch with a 200MP periscope telephoto sensor sized 1/1.56 inch that supports 3.2x optical zoom, has an f/2.4 aperture, a 75mm native focal length and macro focusing down to 12cm.

The company published the specifications and shared camera samples in separate posts on Weibo ahead of a planned launch tomorrow in China.

Camera hardware and samples

Xiaomi described the two rear 200MP modules as the headline hardware for the 18 Pro series and released sample images taken with both the main and the periscope cameras. The periscope telephoto, Xiaomi said, captures 280% more light on the 18 Pro compared with the telephoto on the 17 Pro; the 18 Pro Max is claimed to offer 83 percent higher light intake than the 17 Pro Max, figures attributed to Xiaomi.

The periscope’s 75mm native focal length and 3.2x optical zoom are accompanied by a quoted macro focus capability to 12cm, while the primary camera is described as a Leica 200MP unit on a 1/1.28 inch sensor. Xiaomi did not provide further technical details in the Weibo posts beyond the sensor sizes, apertures and the shared sample images.

Launch timing and other specifications

Xiaomi will unveil the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in China tomorrow. The company says the new flagships will include an upgraded rear display, a hardware level privacy display and larger batteries than their predecessors. The phones are expected to run on Qualcomm’s yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset.
