iPhone 18 Pro battery leak shows notable capacity gains

A slip in China's regulatory filings just added a few hundred milliamps to the iPhone story. New entries in the 3C database, flagged by tipster Digital Chat Station, list battery capacities for what appear to be the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Numbers that matter

The iPhone 18 Pro Max shows two different cells depending on the SIM configuration. The eSIM-only variant is listed with a 5,567 mAh battery. The model with a physical SIM tray is listed at 5,391 mAh. That’s a sizable step up from the previous generation.

On the Pro side, the filings list a 4,288 mAh battery for the eSIM model and 4,056 mAh for the physical SIM version. Put simply, both Pro and Pro Max could arrive with larger batteries than their iPhone 17 counterparts.

Why the split? Apple tends to sell eSIM-only handsets in the United States, while markets like China still get physical SIM trays. The result: slightly different battery builds and capacity numbers by region. Small on paper. Meaningful in daily use.

Compare past to present. The numbers in the database imply that the eSIM iPhone 18 Pro Max could carry roughly 479 mAh more than the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the physical SIM variant could gain about 568 mAh. For the Pro, gains are smaller but visible: modest increases that could translate to longer screen-on time or more headroom for power-hungry features.

Does more capacity always equal better battery life? Not always. Software, display refresh rates, and chip efficiency all shape real-world endurance. But when a manufacturer adds several hundred mAh without dramatically changing the phone's footprint, it’s a strong hint that battery life is being prioritized.

Regulatory listings aren't a launch announcement, but they are one of the most reliable early indicators of hardware direction. Expect more leaks and tests to follow as release season approaches, and keep an eye on regional model numbers if battery life is a top concern.
