Reports are emerging that some early buyers of Apple's iPhone Duo experienced internal display damage within hours of unboxing. Several devices reportedly developed cracks along the hinge and one or more bright lines on the right side of the internal screen, with images and accounts collated on Reddit.
The complaints appeared before the device reached wide retail distribution, focusing attention on the hinge and the integrity of the internal display. Reddit posts and accompanying images show a consistent pattern: the breakage runs along the fold line and bright vertical lines are visible to the right of the hinge.

An Australian buyer said they had the phone for about six hours and had opened it fewer than 20 times. While showing the device to a friend, they felt something unusual under the screen near the internal hinge. "When I continued opening the phone, I heard a distinct cracking sound and the display broke right along the hinge," the owner wrote.
The owner added that there were no signs of impact, scratches, or trapped foreign objects on the internal display or the outer hinge surface, details that make obvious accidental damage less likely, though a definitive cause requires technical inspection.

Other Reddit posts include a photo of a cracked display and a video in the comments showing a second damaged unit. A separate Reddit thread has collected additional images of affected iPhone Duo devices.
Apple has not responded to media requests for clarification about the reports. At least one Apple Store replaced a defective unit on the spot with a brand-new device, resolving that customer's problem.

The true scale of the issue will become clearer as more units are delivered and as service centers log cases. If similar reports continue, how Apple handles replacements, warranty coverage and a technical explanation for the failures will be central to follow-up reporting.
