Motorola's new Edge 70 Max leans hard into that idea: flagship silicon, a seriously bright screen, and the largest battery ever fitted into an Edge model. It arrives in India as the most powerful handset in the Edge 70 family, positioned above the Pro+ yet below the Signature.

Battery first, but not at the expense of speed

The headline figure is obvious. A 7,100mAh fourth-generation silicon-carbon cell lives inside a chassis just 8.29mm thick. You read that right. Big stamina without a brick-like build. Charging is balanced too: 90W wired TurboPower for fast top-ups, 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless with MagSafe accessory compatibility for convenience, and 5W wired reverse charging to juice accessories on the fly.

Motorola doesn't stop at raw capacity. An expansive 5,500mm² vapour chamber and an advanced cooling array covering 29,550mm² mean the phone can keep up under sustained loads. Under the hood sits Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.1 storage. That combination keeps apps snappy and multitasking fluid. The display also aids responsiveness: a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Extreme AMOLED LTPO panel with a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate, 360Hz touch sampling, and claims of up to 7,000 nits peak brightness. Camera hardware follows Motorola's recent pragmatic approach. A 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA-710 sensor with optical image stabilization anchors the system. An 8-megapixel ultra-wide doubles as a macro camera, and a 32-megapixel front shooter handles selfies and video calls. It is not an ultra-experimental camera stack, but it favors reliable results over gimmicks.

Software is Android 16 with Motorola's Hello UX on top. The company promises three Android upgrades and five years of security updates, which is a solid commitment for buyers who plan to keep a phone for the long haul. Extras include Wi-Fi 7, stereo speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos and Snapdragon Sound, and rugged credentials: MIL-STD-810H plus IP66, IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings.

Design and finishing touches matter. The Edge 70 Max comes in Pantone Aqua Gray, Pantone Ice Melt and Pantone Dark Shadow tones. The frame and coping choices aim to make a heavy battery feel less burdensome in the hand, and Motorola's MagSafe-compatible magnetic wireless charging makes accessories easier to live with.

Price and availability are clear. The 8GB + 256GB model is listed at Rs 54,999 (about €524) and the 12GB + 256GB trim is Rs 59,999 (about €575). Sales start on July 20 via Flipkart, Motorola India and authorized offline retailers.
