Leaked Specs Hint Galaxy Z Flip8 Will Be Noticeably Lighter

There’s a familiar snap, and then a phone that might actually feel lighter in your hand. That’s the promise behind the latest leak about Samsung’s next clamshell, the Galaxy Z Flip8.

Tipster Ice Universe says the Flip8 will weigh around 180 grams, trimming about 8 grams from the Galaxy Z Flip7’s 188 grams. Eight grams is small on paper. In your pocket or during long calls, though, it can change the impression of a device from bulky to effortless.

Why the slim-down matters more than you think

Reported thickness measurements add nuance. Samsung is said to target 6.1 mm when the phone is unfolded, a figure that excludes the rubber bumper along the inner display. Factor that bumper back in and the device clocks in at about 6.6 mm, roughly matching last year’s model. Translation: the Flip8 aims for a sleeker feel without radically reworking the silhouette.

Leaks have also pointed to a refined hinge design and a less visible crease on the folding display. That’s the sort of improvement that won’t show up in spec sheets, but will matter every time you glance at the screen or type across the fold. Other hardware appears stable: the cover display, battery capacity, and camera layout are expected to carry over from the Flip7.

Samsung plans to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 series and the Z Flip8 at Galaxy Unpacked on July 22. Will shaving a few grams and polishing the hinge be enough to sway buyers who already own last year’s model?
