2028 Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 Coupe Facelift Spied Ahead

Mercedes-AMG is preparing a mid-cycle update for the GLC 53 Coupe, with a camouflaged prototype photographed during testing at the Nurburgring. The refresh focuses on revised front and rear styling and cabin detailing, while the existing AMG 53 inline-six powertrain is expected to carry over for the 2028 model year.

Design changes spotted on the prototype

The test mule, a GLC 53 Coupe, was photographed with camouflage on the front and rear, revealing several visible revisions. New headlights adopt Mercedes’ star-pattern daytime running lights, mirrored by a similar star motif in the taillights. The front bumper shows revised air intakes, and the Panamericana grille appears to retain its vertical slats though with subtle styling tweaks. The prototype keeps the same overall profile, with only likely wheel updates and, at this stage, carryover rear bumper and diffuser treatments; production versions are expected to receive finalised rear bumper and diffuser designs.

Exterior AMG cues remain intact. The quad round exhaust outlets are present on the prototype and are expected to be retained for AMG 53 specification, possibly with updated trim around the tailpipes.

Interior and powertrain expectations

Inside, the GLC is expected to retain its portrait-oriented infotainment display and tablet-like digital instrument cluster. Changes are likely to include a new or revised steering wheel and updated upholstery and trim options. Mercedes has not confirmed interior details for the facelifted GLC 53 Coupe.

The current Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 uses an inline-six with forced induction and mild-hybrid assistance. AMG lists output at 443 horsepower (450 ps/330 kW) and 443 pound-feet (600 Nm) of torque, rising to 472 pound-feet (640 Nm) on overboost. Peak power is available between 5,800 and 6,100 rpm, with maximum thrust from 2,200 to 2,500 rpm. AMG claims a 0–60 mph (97 kph) time of 4.0 seconds for the GLC 53 Coupe, and the 2027 GLC 53 Coupe has an MSRP of $75,900, excluding destination, options and dealer fees.

V8 prospects and timing

Mercedes-AMG recently introduced the CLE 646, which uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 rated at 637 hp (475 kW/646 ps) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, with mild-hybrid assistance and rear-wheel drive. AMG states the CLE 646 reaches 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.9 seconds and 124 mph (200 kph) in 11.4 seconds. In theory, that V8 could fit the GLC architecture because the CLE and the GLC share the MRA2 platform, but Mercedes has not announced plans to install the CLE’s V8 in the current GLC generation. The brand previously offered the GLC 43 with roughly 416 hp and the GLC 63 with about 671 hp, but both were withdrawn for the 2027 model year in favor of the GLC 53.

Mercedes markets the current GLC lineup as 2027 models in the United States, so this facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLC 53 Coupe is expected to debut as a 2028 model. An official unveiling could occur within months, though Mercedes has not provided dates.
