vivo to Unveil OriginOS 7 (Android 17) at VDC Sept 16

Picture your phone waking up with a smoother personality. That’s what vivo is promising when it lifts the curtain on OriginOS 7, its Android 17-based skin, at the vivo Dev Conference on September 16.

The company has already teased a handful of visual and under-the-hood changes on Weibo, and it’s clear this is more than a cosmetic refresh. vivo will also introduce BlueOS 4 for wearables and smart-home gear at the same event. Expect the new vivo X500 series to follow later this month.

Visible polish, behind-the-scenes muscle

First, the look. OriginOS 7 brings a liquid glass-like interface: softer lighting, slicker animations, and new Liquid Themes for the lockscreen. There’s a system-wide sticker library for quick personalization, plus an Atomic Workbench mode tailored for classic candybar phones. Small touches, but they stack up.

Under the surface, vivo says it has reworked memory management and refined what it calls an "unfair scheduling" algorithm to prioritize smooth multitasking and animation fluidity. Storage Compression 2.0 is another headline: on a 256 GB device, vivo claims the tech can reclaim up to 20 GB of space.

OriginOS 7 aims to modernize the look, speed, and battery behavior of vivo phones.

Numbers are promising, but the real test will be daily use: how these tweaks translate into smoother scrolling, fewer reloads, and longer screen-on times. vivo says it will reveal wider device support and the public rollout schedule at the conference.
