Dimensity 9600 Pro Surfaces Early at Shockingly Low Price

A handful of unmarked chips turned up on a Chinese secondhand site, packed in a plain plastic bag and priced like spare parts. The photos looked like a garage repair listing. But the labels hinted at something bigger.

The seller posted units labeled MT6993Z and MT6995Z. MT6993Z is already known to be the Dimensity 9500. MT6995Z is widely suspected to be a new top-tier MediaTek part, likely a Dimensity 9600 Pro based on the companys usual numbering. The listing asked about €26 each, with free shipping on orders of two or more. It was removed soon after.

A close look at the chips and what they suggest

Pictures show loose BGA packages in a sealed bag, hand-labeled with those part numbers, and close-ups of the individual dies. The seller described them as unencrypted engineering-grade samples pulled from teardown stock and pitched them for motherboard repair or expansion work. That could be true. Or it could be a breadcrumb trail from someone deeper inside the supply chain.

Size matters here. From the photos, the suspected Dimensity 9600 Pro appears roughly the same die size as the Dimensity 9500, around 140 mm². That nudges MediaTek closer to Qualcomms rumored next flagship die of about 134 mm², shrinking a gap that used to be more obvious. A larger die usually raises component costs. MediaTek has historically kept prices competitive, so how the company balances performance and cost will be one to watch.

The package looks like a traditional FCPoP design, similar to the previous generation. Thermal behavior will partly come down to packaging choices versus whatever optimizations Qualcomm may apply. The chips carry silkscreen markings that dont reveal much more; MediaTek seems to have tweaked its encoding this cycle.

So what do we actually know? Confirmed: MT6993Z equals Dimensity 9500. Unconfirmed: MT6995Z equals Dimensity 9600 Pro. The marketplace sighting does not replace an official announcement. Still, the presence of engineering samples for sale is a practical sign that MediaTeks next flagship silicon is moving through engineering stages.

Is this a leak, a careless disposal of development stock, or a signal that these chips are already in wider circuit-level testing? The answer could be all of the above. Either way, seeing hardware at this stage offers a rare peek behind the curtain before marketing teams prepare their scripts.
