Galaxy Z8 Series Won’t Support Dual Physical SIM Cards

One slot, two lines — but not both physically

Samsung released three new models this cycle: Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. All share the same SIM arrangement. Each phone has a single nano-SIM slot and supports up to two eSIM profiles. Practical result? You can have two active numbers, but only if you mix and match digital profiles or go fully digital.

Want two physical SIMs? You won’t get them. The choices are either one physical nano-SIM plus one eSIM, or two eSIMs. Only two lines can be active at a time.

The change is a step back for some users, and a return to an older Samsung pattern for others. The original Galaxy Fold and the Fold 2 launched with a single physical slot. Later models, through Fold 7, offered dual nano-SIM trays in many markets. Now the Fold 8 Ultra aligns with Flip 8 and Fold 8 by dropping the dual physical tray.

Why care? For travelers and professionals who rely on separate physical SIMs for work and personal numbers, or for regions where eSIM rollout is uneven, this matters. Carriers in some countries still lag on eSIM support, and getting a second number may not be as simple as tapping a settings toggle.

But the Flip lineup rarely shipped with dual physical SIMs outside select Asian markets, so for many users this is familiar territory. Samsung seems to be nudging users toward eSIM as the default secondary option, likely to free internal space and simplify manufacturing for the new form factors.

Practical advice: check carrier eSIM availability in your country before pre-ordering. If you travel often to places where eSIM provisioning is limited, consider keeping a backup device or choosing a model from another vendor that still supports dual physical SIMs.

The Z8s are gorgeous and technically impressive. Just don’t assume they’ll match older models when it comes to carrying two physical SIM cards.
