Not every smartphone has to follow the tall-and-skinny playbook. Huawei just proved that with a phone that looks like it took a detour from current designs and never looked back.

The Pura X View arrives as the first mainstream non-folding handset to embrace a wide 16:9.5 display. That ratio feels unusual in 2026, and on purpose. It gives the screen a cinematic stance that favors video, gaming, and split-screen multitasking in ways typical flagship slabs do not.

Hardware that insists on attention

Huawei has shared a handful of headline specs that explain the swagger. The panel runs at 2,232 by 1,320 pixels and claims a peak brightness of up to 6,500 nits. Bezels are whisper-thin at 1.05 millimeters, and the screen covers 96.1 percent of the front. Short sentence. Big impression.

Even with a massive 7,000mAh battery inside, the phone keeps a surprisingly slim profile: 6.68 millimeters thick and a weight of 201 grams. Those numbers suggest Huawei prioritized endurance without making the device feel like a brick in the pocket.

On the back sits a horizontal, pill-shaped module housing three cameras. Huawei has understated the details so far, but leaks and tips point to three 50 megapixel sensors and a flagship-class imaging setup. Memory options include 12 gigabytes of RAM, and storage tops out at one terabyte.

There are still rumors to verify. A Weibo tipster has pegged the display size at 6.39 inches and suggested the Pura X View may ship with a Kirin 9030s chipset. Treat that as plausible but not final until Huawei posts the full spec sheet.

Availability is limited to Huawei's official online store in China for pre-reservation now. The company will unveil complete specifications, pricing, and global availability on August 28.
