iPhone 18 Pro and Duo support 60W charging, but Macs don't

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max can reach 50% charge in about 15 minutes, but that peak speed requires a charger that supports 60W peak power, USB Power Delivery 3.1, and Adjustable Voltage Supply.

Apple claims the 18 Pro series is roughly a quarter faster than the iPhone 17 Pro, which needed about 20 minutes for the same top-up. Apple also says a five-minute charge should provide about six hours of video playback.

Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter, which the company says can output up to 60W when paired with a compatible USB-C cable, will deliver the advertised wired speeds. Higher-wattage MacBook chargers such as the 96W and 140W models do not qualify because they lack the adjustable voltage feature.

Many third-party chargers above 40W, including some Anker 45W adapters, will still charge the phones but typically top out at the previous generation’s roughly 20-minute mark for 50%.

There is no power adapter in the box, only a USB-C cable, so buyers who want the fastest wired speeds must purchase a compatible adapter separately.

Apple says wireless charging also improves: with a MagSafe charger and any 35W or higher adapter, the phones can hit 50% in about 30 minutes.

The upcoming foldable iPhone Duo, expected next month, supports the same faster speeds under the same conditions, Apple says.

Adjustable Voltage Supply is an open protocol defined by the USB Implementers Forum, so any charger or power bank that properly supports PD 3.1 or newer should be able to deliver the peak power.
