Roadmap leak hints at fresh 3nm entries
Digital Chat Station shared a short but revealing note: alongside the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chips that have been rumored, Qualcomm apparently has two more Snapdragon 8-series designs in development built on a 3nm process. The entries show up under the labels Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX with part number SM8850Q and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro listed as SM8845 Pro.
Those numbers matter. Last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 carried SM8850 and SM8845 respectively, so these new suffixes suggest iterative variants rather than entirely new families. How big the differences will be is anyone’s guess. The Pro tag usually signals higher clocks, extra GPU or enhanced ISP tuning. It could also be a stepping stone to a Gen 6 name, depending on Qualcomm’s marketing choices.
We already heard talk of two 2nm chips under the Elite Gen 6 banner, reportedly SM8950 and SM8975 for the Pro model.
