Summit Vans Australia has unveiled the Salt Lake, a family-oriented conversion built on a 2025 AWD Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 144-inch wheelbase that combines off-road hardware, a lightweight pop-top and systems sized for multi-day family trips. Summit Vans says Salt Lake is the most capable family adventure van it has yet made.

Chassis and exterior equipment

Salt Lake is built on a 2025 AWD Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 144-inch wheelbase. Summit Vans fitted 17-inch Summit wheels with all-terrain tires and upgraded suspension including Fox Factory Race front struts and rear shocks plus heavy-duty rear leaf springs. The conversion raises the Gross Vehicle Mass to 4,430 kg (9,766 lb.).

  • Aluminess Recon rear bumper with Warn winch and a bullbar carrying two Baja Designs LP6 light pods
  • Spare tire carrier combined with a rear ladder; separate carrier for two bike racks and traction boards
  • Bravo snorkel, heavy-duty side steps and flares paint matched to the body with small awning-style windows

Bumper and lower rocker panels are coated in Raptor truck bed liner. The driver side features a surfboard mount and a ladder that provides roof access.

Roof, shelter and exterior lighting

The roof hosts a Weldbeat rack carrying five front-facing Baja Designs LP9 light pods configured as three clear and two amber units, and a Fiamma F45S awning. The most significant exterior shelter is an Alucab LT-50 pop-top tent. The LT-50 is described as a lightweight unit weighing 101 lb (46 kg) with a low-profile aluminium shell, UV-resistant canvas, foam insulation, three zipped windows and a 60 mm-thick foam mattress. A 410 W solar panel is mounted on top of the tent.

Other exterior connections and accessories include power and water hookups and additional carriers for outdoor equipment.

Interior layout, sleeping arrangements and storage

The interior uses dark finishes: black laminated cabinetry, 2tec2 woven vinyl flooring and a matching ceiling with recessed LED light strips plus a bamboo centre strip. The layout is open with no partition between the driver cabin and living area; driver and passenger seats are on swivel bases to face the living space.

The kitchen is located immediately inside the entrance and features a deep stainless steel sink with a cover, a microwave oven and an 85-liter Dometic fridge with a small freezer compartment. Storage includes an overhead cabinet, five soft-close drawers, a shoe cubby and a cabinet beneath the sink.

The main seating is a three-seater Techsafe bench fitted with seatbelts and a Lagun table mount. The rear bedroom is a fixed arrangement with a queen-size mattress, two overhead cabinets, two shelves, two reading lights and L-Tracks on the side walls (one L-Track holds a Sirocco swivel fan). Under the bed is an externally accessible garage with a heavy-duty pull-out tray and a fork mount for storing a mountain bike; the garage is accessible only through the two rear doors.

Power, charging, plumbing and heating

Electrical equipment is mounted on the left side and includes an 820 Ah lithium battery bank and a 3,000 W inverter. Summit Vans specifies three charging sources: solar, shore power and DC-DC charging while the engine is running.

  • 180-liter (47-gallon) freshwater tank with a water filtration system and an outdoor shower connection
  • Dieselheat DH9 hydronic system providing heated air and hot water

These systems are sized to support extended off-grid use for a family of up to four occupants without compromising creature comforts.

Is this even real? 410W panel and 820Ah battery on a Sprinter sounds massive, did they mean 820Ah total or per bank? and that 4,430kg GVM, legal in many places?
