Spy images show the next-generation Lexus LFA is being tested as an all-electric model and appears close to production.

The prototype wears heavy camouflage and an active rear wing. It is reported to use the same chassis shared with the Toyota GR GT and the GR GT3 race car.

The successor will be all-electric and will not employ the twin-turbo V8 layout. Lexus is exploring technical measures to recover some of the character lost without the original V10.

Published concept dimensions put the car at 471 cm long, 204 cm wide and 119 cm tall, about 25 cm longer and 15 cm wider than the original LFA.

New patent filings show engineers developing a simulated sequential gearbox. The proposed system would cut motor torque for a fraction of a second and then reapply it to mimic the clutch shock of a gearshift under throttle.

Company planning documents indicate production could begin next year with a possible market introduction in 2027, but those dates are not final.

Lexus faces challenges including heavy battery weight and limited demand for electric supercars. Final powertrain specifications and production dimensions have not been released.
