At EICMA 2026 in Milan Yamaha presented the Tenere 4 concept, a compact new addition that the company described as a glimpse of the future for its expanding Tenere adventure range. Details were thin, but Yamaha framed the concept as a response to rising customer demand for a lightweight machine suitable for A2 licence riders.
Yamaha did not disclose a full equipment list or a production timetable. The firm did, however, signal the general direction: an A2‑friendly powertrain and adventure-ready hardware. An A2 licence restricts bikes to a maximum of 47 horsepower, and Yamaha indicated the productionised model would come from a small or medium displacement engine capped to meet that limit.

Design and mechanical highlights
Yamaha confirmed a handful of concrete items. The Tenere 4 concept wears KYB suspension at both ends and rides on spoked wheels in 21‑inch front and 18‑inch rear sizes, fitted as shown with Michelin Anakee Wild tires. Visually the bike follows the family look with a narrow profile and a flat, low fuel tank, and the show machine was fitted with a titanium Akrapovic exhaust on one side.

The Tenere name needs little introduction. It began in the early 1980s with the XT600 Tenere, a model born from Yamaha’s early Dakar Rally involvement, and has expanded over the decades into one of the brand’s primary adventure lineups. Yamaha has been more inclined to broaden the range than to consolidate it, and the Tenere 4 concept serves as a preview of that strategy.

Yamaha left the timing unresolved. Earlier this year the Tenere family gained the 700 World Raid when it reached the United States in spring, and in October Yamaha applied updates to the standard and Rally models for the 2027 model year.
