Artist-rendered images circulating online present a virtual mid-cycle refresh for the 2028 Audi RS3 Sportback, centred on a thoroughly reworked front fascia and slimmer rear lighting. The CGI project, signed by Instagram user @ap.studio.974 and shared on social media during the northern hemisphere summer, is purely a digital exercise and not an official Audi announcement. The images and accompanying notes were published alongside this report by Cristian Gnaticov on 26 Oct 2026.
Context and what the render changes
The RS3 sits atop the fourth-generation Audi A3 range, which debuted in 2020: the Sportback was unveiled in March 2020, the Sedan in April 2020, and production at Audi's Ingolstadt plant began in May 2020. In China, a long-wheelbase A3L is built at the Qingdao facility under the FAW-VW joint venture. The fourth-gen A3 uses the Volkswagen Group's MQB Evo platform, a widely applied architecture that also underpins models such as the Q3, Q6, Cupra Formentor and Terramar, SEAT Leon, Skoda Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq, and Volkswagen Golf Mk8, Passat and Tiguan, among others.

The A3 family is available with a wide range of powertrains depending on market: inline-three petrol engines, inline-four petrol-hybrid units, bi-fuel gasoline/CNG setups, diesel engines in Europe, and a straight-five petrol engine reserved for the RS3 range. In the United States the RS3 Sportback is not offered, while the RS3 Sedan is sold for the 2027 model year with an MSRP of $67,500. For reference, the A3 Sedan starts at $40,700 and the S3 Sedan at $52,500.

Performance figures differ across the range. The base A3 quoted here completes 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) in 6.0 seconds, with 201 hp (204 ps/150 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. The S3 produces 328 hp (333 ps/245 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), reaching 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The RS3 uses a 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine officially rated at 394 hp (400 ps/294 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), with a 0-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds.
The CGI RS3 Sportback reworks the car's exterior in several visible ways. Up front the render shows redesigned headlights and a new bumper with a more aggressive shape, including an apron with blade-like elements on the outer edges. The side profile in the images includes modified side skirts and fender trim, while the rear features a revised bumper, a new diffuser and much slimmer taillights connected by a thin light strip across the tailgate. The car is shown in a gray finish with black accents, larger-than-original wheels and a slightly reduced ride height compared with stock images.

One detail that departs from RS model convention is the exhaust layout. Traditional RS models use large dual oval tailpipes; the artist's render depicts different outlets emerging from the new diffuser, a choice noted for not matching the usual RS visual language.
The artist did not render the interior. Cristian Gnaticov and the original post suggest that a real mid-cycle refresh could include interior updates such as new screens, revised switchgear, a modified centre console, a new steering wheel, different trim and upholstery and updated air vents, but those points are speculative and not shown in the images. Likewise, chassis tweaks or powertrain upgrades are possible candidates for a production facelift, yet the render itself offers no confirmation; any such changes would be announced by Audi if and when a formal update is planned.

These images are a designer's interpretation rather than an official preview. They illustrate how a refreshed RS3 Sportback might appear while leaving engineering, interior specification and market plans to Audi's future announcements.
