Apple has introduced its fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, which brings the A19 chipset and new Siri AI features but arrives with a substantially higher launch price than the 2022 model.
Performance, codecs and storage
The new Apple TV 4K is powered by the Apple A19 chipset, the same processor used in the iPhone 17. Apple says the A19 delivers a large performance uplift over the A15 used in the 2022 model, with the CPU 50 percent faster and the GPU twice as fast. The A19 also integrates an AV1 decoder; Apple noted AV1 is important for modern streaming as H.265 remains mired with patent issues.

Apple has removed the 64 gigabyte option. The sole configuration ships with 128 gigabytes of storage and includes gigabit Ethernet as standard.
Audio, video and accessories
The Apple TV 4K continues to support Apple Arcade and Apple Fitness+. It supports video output up to 4K at 60 frames per second and is compatible with 21:9 displays and projectors. Apple lists the following audio and video formats as supported:
- Dolby Atmos
- Dolby Vision
- HDR, HDR10+ and HLG

For home audio, Apple now permits pairing up to four HomePod speakers, using HomePod mini 2 and/or HomePod (2nd gen). You can mix and match models, but the front pair and the rear pair must be the same model. AirPods can be used for private listening with Spatial Audio and up to two pairs can be connected simultaneously. The included Apple TV remote keeps its familiar design and gains Find My support with Precision Finding to make it easier to locate if lost.

Smart home control, Siri AI and privacy
The new Apple TV 4K supports Wi-Fi and Thread connectivity and can act as a central display for HomeView or control smart home devices from the TV. Compatible doorbell cameras will present a live view when the doorbell rings and allow two-way talk; if a smart lock is installed, Apple says you can unlock the door from the Apple TV. Camera feeds can be shown in picture-in-picture mode.

Apple described new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features that analyze security camera feeds to generate descriptions and summarized notifications when activity is detected. Apple described A19 as containing Secure Exclaves, which are protected runtimes that process data separately from the main system. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI use a combination of on-device processing and Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, per Apple’s statements. The set-top box includes three far-field microphones to support the Hey, Siri wake word from across the room for playback and smart home control.

Availability and price
The Apple TV 4K (4th gen) is available for pre-order from Apple.com in a single configuration priced at $300. Apple noted that this launch price is double the launch price of the 3rd generation model from 2022; the 64GB 3rd gen model originally launched at $130 and the 128GB/Ethernet 3rd gen model was $150. Apple lists actual availability as one month from now (November 13).

Had the 2022 ATV and used it for HomeKit cams, the new AI summaries sound cool, could be handy. But i wont pay double price, i'll wait for discounts or used ones.
A19 in a set-top box is wild, but $300? seriously, who is this for. AV1 built-in ok, but removing 64GB and forcing 128GB feels overpriced. Any actual streaming gains?
