China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has posted official images and filing data showing the Buick Electra GS PHEV with a claimed combined output of 375 horsepower (380 metric horsepower), confirming the production plug-in hybrid configuration ahead of Buick's formal unveiling.
The documents, filed for the SAIC-GM joint venture model, make clear the Electra GS is a China-focused, fastback-style sedan and are the first production images to surface after the Electra GS Concept debuted in April 2025. The MIIT disclosure also underlines that this production sedan is markedly lower and sleeker than the concept's taller, hatchback-like silhouette.
Design and dimensions
The Electra GS adopts styling cues that reference Buick's Gran Sport heritage while translating them into a modern fastback. The front end has ultra-slim C-shaped LED headlights joined by an LED strip, with the tri-shield badge positioned below on a relatively subdued shark-nose fascia. The roofline flows into a streamlined fastback profile and the rear features a full-width taillight layout that curves inward at the liftgate.

The production car is positioned beneath the Electra L7 in size. Measures listed in the filing are 190.0 inches (4,980 millimeters) long, 75.4 inches (1,915 millimeters) wide and 58.9 inches (1,495 millimeters) tall, riding on a 112.8-inch (2,865 millimeter) wheelbase. Those dimensions make it slightly shorter than the Electra L7 and suggest a more compact and potentially more affordable alternative in Buick's China lineup.
Powertrain and battery
The MIIT documents confirm a plug-in hybrid drivetrain combining an electric motor rated at 221 horsepower (224 metric horsepower) with either a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter inline-four or a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four. The naturally aspirated engine is listed at 72 horsepower (73 metric horsepower) and the turbocharged unit at 154 horsepower (156 metric horsepower).
Buick's reported outputs include a base combined figure of 318 horsepower (322 metric horsepower) for the non-turbo hybrid variant and the top-line turbocharged PHEV at 375 horsepower (380 metric horsepower). The car uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack produced in-house by SAIC-GM Powertrain Technology; filing materials do not disclose battery capacity or the pure-electric driving range.

GM has not released pricing. The company has indicated a launch targeted for early 2027, with detailed commercial specifications and pricing likely to follow closer to that date.
While the Electra GS PHEV appears confirmed for China, the filing reiterates that the model is tailored to the local market. Industry observers note regulatory barriers and tariffs make U.S. production or sales unlikely, though manufacturer plans leave open the possibility of a European introduction in due course.
For now the MIIT images give the clearest view yet of how Buick has taken the Electra GS concept toward production, trading some of the concept's height and hatchback proportions for a lower, more conventional fastback silhouette and a confirmed PHEV drivetrain.
