Huawei sub-brand will use English name Osta for flagships

Two reliable leakers say Huawei's new sub-brand will use the English name Osta and launch with two flagship-positioned phones, the O1 and O1 Pro. The O1 features a four-sided curved screen; the O1 Pro is a wide 6.39-inch 1.5K device with up to 1TB storage.

Two reliable leakers say Huawei's upcoming sub-brand will use the English name Osta, and that name will reportedly appear on retail boxes when the line debuts with two models positioned as flagship-level devices.

Last month a report said Huawei was preparing a sub-brand called Xingmang, which translates to Starlight or Starburst, and a subsequent tipster described the first phone as a wide-screen candybar while warning that Starlight or Starburst was only a translation and might not be the final brand name.

Design signals and model breakdown

The two phones said to launch under Osta are the Osta O1 and the Osta O1 Pro. The O1 is described as having a screen curved on all four sides and a large circular camera island on the rear. The O1 Pro is the wide model, with narrow bezels all around and a horizontal camera strip across the back. The Pro is tipped to use a 6.39-inch 1.5K LTPS flat panel with a 16:9.5 aspect ratio, which the tipsters say should make it look similar to the Pura X View.

Storage configurations reported for the O1 Pro are 12/256GB, 12/512GB, 16/512GB, and 16GB/1TB. The same sources say the O1 Pro's specifications and pricing will be on par with Huawei's current flagships, an alignment the leakers attribute in part to high memory costs.

Those details mark a departure from an earlier rumor that Xingmang or Starlight phones would be mid-range devices powered by Kirin 8-series chipsets. The new leaks position the initial Osta products at a higher tier than that prior report suggested.

Asked whether Huawei would leave wide-screen designs to Osta going forward, one of the tipsters said the wide-screen form factor will remain in the main Huawei brand's lineup as well.
