A 6.0-litre V12 rated at 621 horsepower underpins the headline car: one of two bespoke 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S680s commissioned by LeBron James will be offered at auction to benefit his foundation.

Gooding Christie's announced the Mercedes-Maybach will be a featured lot at the Retromobile New York sale, which takes place at the Javits Center on 20 and 21 November 2026. The custom commission was completed through Mercedes-Benz's Manufaktur Made to Measure programme; James ordered two almost identical cars, keeping one in his personal garage and placing the second in the sale for charity.

Design and provenance

The car wears an ivory exterior and an interior trimmed in Stormy Weather blue Napa leather with porcelain-contrast stitching. James's crown logo replaces the standard V12 emblem on the front fenders, the headrests, the dashboard and the floor mats, and the centre console is engraved with the geographic coordinates of his hometown, Akron, Ohio. Under the hood, both commissioned S680s are fitted with the factory 6.0-litre V12 producing 621 hp.

Rupert Banner, senior specialist at Gooding Christie's, described the project as "a seamless marriage of excellence." LeBron James reflected on the collaboration, saying, "The design of my custom Maybach is something I couldn't even imagine when I was growing up in Akron."

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the I PROMISE programme at the LeBron James Family Foundation to support students and families in Akron, Ohio.

The car will be on public display ahead of the sale: at Mercedes-Benz Manhattan from 9 to 16 November 2026 and next at the auction site from 19 to 21 November, prior to the 20–21 November auction dates at the Javits Center.
