Native streaming, finally
Nvidia has released the stable, non-beta release of the GeForce Now client for Linux, turning a long-standing wish into reality for many open-source users. Until now, Linux players relied on browser streaming or translation tools. The native app removes that middleman and delivers cloud gaming as if it were built for the platform.
Installation is simple thanks to a new Flatpak repository Nvidia published. That should make updates and dependency headaches fade into the background, leaving gameplay in the foreground where it belongs.
Performance was the focus. Nvidia says the final build targets better frame stability, fewer glitches, and a cleaner overall experience. They also tuned DLSS for the cloud, aiming to cut latency at 1440p and higher so streamed sessions feel closer to local GPU performance.

What this means for Linux players
Think of it as a bridge. Linux machines that lack native ports can now access a vast Windows game library without running Proton, Wine, or other compatibility layers. That opens up options for people who game on ultralight laptops, compact desktops, or custom Linux rigs.

The ad-free tier is priced at about €9 per month and unlocks 1440p, ray tracing, and HDR for up to 100 hours monthly. A higher tier, around €18 per month, provides access to more powerful cloud GPUs, including sessions that support 5K resolution and very high frame rates.
For distro maintainers and hobbyists, the Flatpak option is important. It standardizes packaging across distributions, simplifies rollbacks, and reduces the chance that library mismatches will break gameplay.
So what’s the catch? Expect the usual caveats: input latency is still linked to your network, and some games behave differently under cloud conditions. But with DLSS improvements and a native client, those differences are narrowing fast.
Linux gaming has been on a slow rise for years. This move doesn’t change every corner of that landscape overnight, but it strips away a layer of friction that kept casual players away.
