Volkswagen Group’s US deliveries fall 12.4% in Q3 2026

Volkswagen Group’s core US brands — Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche — recorded a 12.4% decline in Q3 2026 to 133,956 deliveries. The drop reflects falling ID.4 volume, model transitions, and reduced EV incentives.

Volkswagen Group’s core brands in the United States recorded a 12.4 percent drop in Q3 2026, with 133,956 total deliveries compared with 152,866 a year earlier. Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche each posted declines as shifting inventory, halted production of certain EV models, and model transitions reshaped sales in the quarter.

Volkswagen: ID.4 collapse offsets gains from petrol models

Volkswagen Americas delivered 78,179 vehicles in Q3 2026, a decrease of 10.9 percent. The automaker reported that the ID.4 electric crossover accounted for a large portion of the decline, with Volkswagen selling 11,481 fewer ID.4s year over year. The ID.4 recorded just 989 deliveries in the quarter, while the ID. Buzz family hauler managed 432 deliveries.

At the same time, combustion-engine models provided partial relief. The Tiguan was the best-selling Volkswagen of the quarter, rising 27.4 percent to 28,091 units. Jetta sales increased 24.9 percent to 14,092 units, and the Taos held roughly flat at 9,780 deliveries. Those improvements helped lift Volkswagen passenger car sales by 16.6 percent, but SUV volume suffered: combined sales of the Atlas and ID. models fell enough to pull total sport utility vehicle volume down 16.2 percent. Atlas volume declined 19.5 percent and Atlas Cross Sport slipped 9.5 percent.

Volkswagen said several factors explain the ID.4 shortfall. Federal electric vehicle tax credits no longer apply for many buyers, the ID.4 is no longer available to configure in the United States, and production of the existing ID.4 stopped earlier in the year so Chattanooga plant capacity could be reallocated to the redesigned Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport. The company noted that remaining ID.4 inventory could last into 2027. A planned North American successor, badged ID. Tiguan, is expected to arrive at dealers in the second half of 2027 as a 2028 model.

Audi and Porsche: model cycles and EV transitions

Audi delivered 39,751 vehicles in Q3 2026, a 15 percent decline from the prior-year quarter. Several recently updated internal-combustion and mixed-powertrain models gained ground: the A5 improved 53 percent, the A6 rose 36 percent, the Q3 increased 24 percent, the Q5 was up 17 percent, the Q7 advanced 42 percent to 6,071 units, and the Q8 more than doubled to 4,095 units. Those gains were not sufficient to offset steep falls in Audi’s electric models.

The Q6 e-tron, built on the Premium Platform Electric architecture, plunged from 10,059 deliveries in Q3 2025 to 619 in Q3 2026. The Q4 e-tron fell from 2,956 deliveries to just 8 units, and the A6 Sportback e-tron, which shares underpinnings with the Q6 e-tron, also declined substantially. Audi’s e-tron GT sales dropped as well.

Porsche reported 16,026 deliveries in the United States for Q3 2026, down 12.9 percent. Porsche attributed its decline largely to extremely low sales of the internal-combustion 718 twins as the marque phases those models out. Porsche confirmed it will not return the gasoline 718; the 718 Electric line is expected to replace it from 2027 onward.

Within Porsche’s mix, the Cayenne led with 5,837 sales and the Macan contributed 5,519. By contrast, the internal-combustion 718 recorded only 8 deliveries. The Taycan also fell off year over year, from 1,553 deliveries in Q3 2025 to 537 in Q3 2026.

The figures and statements above reflect the manufacturers' reported deliveries and announcements for the third quarter of 2026. Published 12 October 2026, original reporting by Mircea Panait.
