Lexus's 2027 NX becomes electrified-only, offered as the NX 350h hybrid and NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid. Updates include revised powertrains, new exterior and interior details, a 45-mile EV range for the plug-in, and split production in Canada and Japan.

Lexus has refreshed the NX for 2027 and will offer it only as hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The update realigns powertrains, adds exterior and interior refinements, and introduces new color and equipment choices while retaining the model's overall silhouette.

Powertrain and drivetrain

For 2027 Lexus offers the NX exclusively as the hybrid NX 350h and the plug-in hybrid NX 450h+. The NX 350h pairs a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a front motor generator and a rear axle motor for a combined output of 244 hp, four horsepower more than the previous version. Lexus states the internal combustion engine itself produces 186 hp at 6,000 rpm and 173 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm.

The NX 450h+ uses the same 2.5-liter engine with a newly developed lithium-ion battery that delivers up to 45 miles (72 km) of pure electric driving. Lexus says the front electric motor has been upgraded from 180 hp to 203 hp, while the rear motor contributes an additional 54 hp, bringing the plug-in hybrid's combined output to 324 hp, 20 hp more than before.

Lexus describes the drivetrain as employing its latest hybrid technology and notes a redesigned engine block casting with reinforced areas to improve block rigidity and reduce noise and vibration. Both powertrains use an e-Axle assembly that integrates the transaxle, motor, and power control unit. All-wheel drive is standard on selected trims.

Exterior refinements and colors

The NX retains its overall shape but receives targeted exterior refinements that Lexus says improve aerodynamics and cooling performance. Subtle aesthetic changes include a shift from chrome to black trim on mirrors and moldings and the first use of a double L signature for the rear lamps.

In the United States the 2027 NX is offered in nine exterior colors, including three new shades:

  • Shaded Ivy
  • Incognito
  • Iridium, replacing previous Atomic Silver

Interior updates and equipment

Inside, the NX shows several changes led by a revised steering wheel that now carries Lexus branding in the company's updated font and measures 14.2 inches in diameter, 0.4 inches smaller than before. The instrument cluster and infotainment remain horizontally aligned with a 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14-inch infotainment screen, the latter now standard across all trim levels.

Lexus offers five interior color options, adding Abalos and Radiant Red as new choices. Lexus says the Abalos shade is inspired by sand dunes in the northern hemisphere of Mars.

Configurations, trims, production and availability

Configuration options differ by powertrain. The NX 350h is available in three configurations: front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and F Sport. The NX 450h+ is offered in two configurations: standard and F Sport. Lexus says the F Sport specification for both powertrains includes unique exterior elements such as under spoilers, side pontoons, and rear corner rocker panels among other features.

Lexus has announced six trim levels for the hybrid NX and four for the plug-in hybrid, but has not yet detailed equipment content for each trim. Production remains split between facilities: the hybrid NX will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada in Ontario, while the plug-in hybrid will be built at Toyota Motor Kyushu in Japan. Lexus has not specified order opening dates or pricing for the refreshed NX.

Only hybrids now? Hmm, Lexus dropping pure EVs again? 45 mile EV range for the PHEV sounds decent, but real world will be less... curious.
