2028 Bentley Supersports Convertible Spied With 666 PS

A largely uncovered prototype of the 2028 Bentley Supersports Convertible was photographed at the Nurburgring, showing the coupe's aerodynamic upgrades and the 4.0-liter V8 rated at 666 metric horsepower, with rear-drive hardware carried over.

The 2028 Bentley Supersports Convertible prototype wears the coupe's aggressive aerodynamic package and the same 4.0-liter V8 tuned to 666 metric horsepower, a powertrain and aero combination that defines the car's intent.

Spotted at the Nurburgring with minimal camouflage, the open-top Supersports follows the coupe introduced for the 2027 model year. The convertible is expected to reach production as a 2028 model, and the spy images show it carries the coupe's pronounced decklid spoiler, a serious-looking diffuser and quad exhaust outlets.

The prototype's matte black bodywork, Pirelli-fitted black wheels, extended sills and sculpted lower side bumpers underline the Supersports' separation from the standard Continental GTC. At the front the car features a distinctive grille, a reworked bumper and small blade-shaped dive planes at the outer edges of the bumper intended to reduce front lift, while enlarged outer intakes serve engine and brake cooling needs.

Chassis and aero carryover

Key mechanical changes that define the Supersports coupe appear to carry to the convertible. The coupe widened its rear track by 16 millimeters because Bentley moved away from all-wheel drive and the plug-in hybrid layout in favor of a rear-drive configuration. That rear-drive special edition also uses rear-wheel steering and an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential, and the convertible prototype shows the same physical cues that suggest those systems will be retained.

Carbon-ceramic brakes and an Akrapovic lightweight exhaust are visible on the prototype. Bentley achieved a notably leaner specification on the coupe by deleting some items to create a more purist driving experience; the coupe weighs 1,998 kilograms (4,405 pounds) in European specification. Matching that figure with the convertible's folding roof will be a substantial engineering challenge.

Powertrain and performance

The Supersports uses the familiar 4.0-liter V8 in a gasoline-only application producing 666 metric horsepower and 800 Newton-meters of torque. The company also cites figures expressed in mechanical horsepower and imperial torque: 657 mechanical horsepower and 590 pound-feet on the right octane. Most of that output is routed to the rear axle through a dual-clutch transmission.

With sticky tires and irrespective of exact final weight, Bentley expects the convertible to reach 100 kph (62 mph) in under four seconds. Maximum speed with the roof closed is cited at 320 kph (199 mph).

Production appetite for the performance variant appears healthy: the coupe's 500-unit run is already allocated. Given the prototype's scant camouflage, observers are expecting Bentley to reveal the convertible imminently; some anticipate a debut at the 2026 Los Angeles Auto Show next month.
