Audi's A6 allroad: First Factory Widebody Plug-In Wagon

Audi’s fifth-generation A6 allroad arrives as the brand’s first factory widebody allroad and its first plug-in hybrid variant, offering a wider track, raised clearance, two electrified powertrains and up to 95 km electric range.

Think of a station wagon that skipped the subtlety memo. Audi has stretched the A6 allroad into something that looks ready to chew up light off-road trails or dominate a motorway overtaking lane. It is, in plain terms, the first factory widebody in the A6 allroad’s 27-year history and the first time the model is offered as a plug-in hybrid.

Size, stance, and purpose

The numbers tell the immediate part of the story. The new allroad measures 5,016 mm long and 1,986 mm wide, and with mirrors 2,099 mm. That width is 111 mm more than the A6 Avant and 84 mm wider than the previous allroad. Track width grows by 55 mm. Wider, yes, but not just for looks.

Ground clearance has been raised so the belly sits 34 mm higher than the Avant, and adaptive air suspension can alter ride height by up to 55 mm. Standard wheels are 19 inches; you can option up to 21 inches. Audi has also widened the rims so tires can be up to 40 mm broader than before. Wider stance, wider rubber, more grip front to rear. The visual effect is muscular. The practical effect is improved stability and confidence, whatever the surface underfoot.

It is not a cosmetic exercise. All four wheels contribute to steering and traction, and the bespoke adaptive air setup was tuned specifically for this car to manage that additional mass and wider footprint.

Two electrified hearts, different characters

Under the skin, Audi offers two electrified powertrains. One leans into diesel tradition, the other points squarely at electrified mobility. Which side you choose depends on use case more than ego.

  • 3.0-liter V6 TDI, 295 hp and 580 Nm, with mild-hybrid tech that adds roughly 24 hp via a belt alternator starter and powertrain generator, plus an electrically driven compressor.
  • Allroad e-hybrid: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine (248 hp) paired with an electric motor (141 hp) for a combined 362 hp and 500 Nm. The system uses a 25.9 kWh battery for pure-electric driving.

Real-world numbers matter. The e-hybrid can travel up to 95 km on electric power under WLTP. An 11 kW AC charger brings the battery back up in roughly two hours, or you can rely on adjustable regenerative braking to recover energy on the move. Acceleration is competitive across the board: 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.4 seconds for the diesel and 5.5 seconds for the plug-in. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.

This allroad is both a long-distance workhorse and a credible hybrid performance wagon, depending on the drivetrain you pick.

Why offer both? Because buyers who value range, towing, and diesel torque still exist, while others want meaningful electric-only range for daily commuting. Audi has simply tried to serve both camps without turning the A6 allroad into a niche oddity.

Options and personalization are extensive. There are eight exterior colors, with Arkona white as the base. Audi offers a 10.9-inch passenger display alongside the 11.9-inch virtual cockpit and the 14.5-inch MMI touch display. Choice of wheel designs, interior trim packages, and Audi exclusive items means price can climb quickly once you tick the boxes.

Orders in Germany open immediately. Pricing starts at 77,250 euros for the diesel allroad and 80,250 euros for the allroad e-hybrid. Audi has not yet announced a U.S. launch date.

The A6 allroad has always been a compromise between practicality and adventure. This fifth generation tips that balance toward the adventurous without abandoning the day-to-day usefulness that made the model a quiet favorite. It looks the part. It has the tech to back it up. And now it wears a factory-made widebody as if it was always meant to.

Is Audi serious offering diesel AND a huge widebody? Cool flex, but who actually wants diesel wagons now

Holy moly that widebody looks mean. 95 km EV range and 362 hp? Sexy, but gonna cost a fortune, right?
