Alpina Developing High-Performance Version of BMW 7 Series

A camouflaged Alpina prototype based on the BMW M760 xDrive has been spied near the Nürburgring. Photos show Alpina exterior revisions while the company is expected to increase power from the M760's 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and apply chassis and interior upgrades.

Alpina is preparing a high-performance version of BMW's refreshed 7 Series. A fully camouflaged prototype believed to be based on the M760 xDrive was spied testing near the Nürburgring, showing Alpina-specific exterior revisions and signaling increased power and chassis work.

Prototype sighting and visible changes

The prototype was photographed at the BMW M Test Center close to the Nürburgring in Germany and was heavily wrapped in camouflage. Despite the coverings, several exterior modifications are apparent, indicating Alpina's typical visual program.

  • New front bumper and revised kidney grille
  • Alpina side skirts and revised rear bumper
  • Quad exhaust outlets and multi-spoke Alpina wheels
  • Yellow daytime running lights and expected Alpina exterior colors

Powertrain and chassis expectations

BMW positions the M760 xDrive as the 7 Series flagship. When BMW unveiled the M760 xDrive earlier this month it confirmed a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 570 horsepower. Alpina has not released technical specifications for its 7 Series variant, but the prototype is widely reported to use the M760 xDrive powertrain with increased output and torque.

As with prior Alpina models, the company is likely to pair any power increases with targeted chassis work and brake upgrades to balance performance and everyday comfort. Specific figures for power, torque, acceleration or suspension tuning have not been published.

Interior cues and market positioning

The refreshed BMW 7 Series LCI includes the Panoramic iDrive package, with a pillar-to-pillar lower display at the base of the windshield and a 17.9-inch free-floating central display. The production Alpina is expected to retain those elements while receiving Alpina-specific interior changes such as unique upholstery, trim, steering wheel, gear selector and branded badging.

Alpina has not confirmed the model name. Observers expect the car to sit at the top of the 7 Series range in markets where Alpina models are offered. A U.S. arrival for the 2028 model year has been suggested in reporting but remains unconfirmed by Alpina or BMW.
