Porsche is developing 15 fully bespoke cars through its Sonderwunsch program, with prices from under $2 million to about $15 million, and expanding factory restorations like the Carrera GT rebuilds that cost $500k to $800k each.

A single bespoke Porsche could cost as much as roughly $15 million, one of 15 fully custom projects the company says it is developing.

Porsche is working on 15 bespoke commissions through its Sonderwunsch program, with prices the company gives ranging from under about $2 million to around $15 million, Alexander Fabig told Automotive News. The moves form part of a broader commercial rethink as Porsche seeks to lower its breakeven point below 200,000 annual vehicle deliveries after years of margin pressure, trade tariffs, fierce competition in China, and heavy investment in electric-vehicle development.

Porsche says it aims to make each car more profitable so it can remain financially healthy even with lower total volume.

Sonderwunsch - bespoke beyond options

The Sonderwunsch program lets customers commission cars that have no direct counterpart in Porsche's standard lineup. These projects go well beyond paint and trim choices: they can require designing and manufacturing new parts, extensive technical development, and bespoke interior and exterior treatments that fundamentally differ from production models. Porsche is also developing very low-volume models that sit between a limited-edition run and a one-off commission, enabling the company to sell more exclusive products without mass production.

Porsche says it is also exploring ways to extract higher margins from future performance flagships. The company has suggested some future top-tier models could carry price increases of more than 200 percent compared with the cheapest Porsche 911, a figure that could see some cars sell for well over three times a base 911 price, depending on final specification and market.

Carrera GT factory restorations

Factory restorations are another revenue stream. Porsche's factory program for Carrera GT owners offers a comprehensive rebuild that can return the V10 supercar to near-new mechanical condition. Fabig said the cost for a Carrera GT restoration runs from about $500,000 to $800,000 per car, not including the purchase price of the vehicle.

Porsche has completed 11 Carrera GT restorations, has 16 more currently being worked on, and 21 cars waiting to enter the program — 48 cars in total involved in the pipeline. That number equals roughly 3.8 percent of the 1,270 Carrera GTs Porsche built from 2003 to 2006. Restorations may include a full mechanical strip and overhaul and can incorporate owner-requested changes to exterior and interior details; in at least one example the company restored the odometer to zero as part of the rebuild and applied a body livery inspired by the 1970 Le Mans-winning Porsche 917 number 23.

Porsche presents these bespoke commissions and factory restorations as ways to capture significant revenue from a small, wealthy customer base while retaining mainstream volume models such as the Macan. The strategy prioritizes margin per vehicle over unit growth as the company works toward a lower breakeven volume.
