The hot-hatch badge has a new face. Peugeot has quietly taken the 205 GTi spirit into the electric era with the e-208 GTi, and the UK can now buy it.

On the road, the price is 34,995 pounds OTR, or 33,495 pounds with the UK Electric Car Grant. Finance deals are already on the table: a 48-month PCP option lists a 5,706.76 pounds deposit (about €6,060), 349 pounds a month (about €372), and an optional final payment of 15,572 pounds (about €16,520).

Small footprint, big intentions

Don’t be fooled by the size. Underneath that compact body sits a 51 kWh net battery, the same pack used in the regular e-208. Fast charging is supported up to 100 kW, taking the battery from 20 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes. At home, a 7.4 kW wall box will refill the pack in roughly 4 hours 40 minutes.

Range numbers depend on the rubber. With the no-cost Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 tires fitted, WLTP range is claimed at up to 233 miles or about 375 km. Choose the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and the figure drops to around 219 miles or 352 km. Real-world results will vary, but those are competitive figures for a performance-oriented supermini.

The electric motor is eager. Peugeot quotes 281 metric horsepower (207 kW/277 bhp) and 345 Nm of torque. That translates to a 0 to 100 kph sprint in 5.5 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 180 kph, or 112 mph. For a subcompact, it’s lively.

Behind the scenes, the e-208 GTi is tuned for sharper behavior. It sits 25 mm lower than the standard e-208, runs a wider track and gains a mechanical limited-slip differential, a stiffer anti-roll bar, and bespoke springs and dampers. Visual cues are purposeful too: a deeper front lip, revised diffuser with a motorsport-style fog lamp, wider wheel arches, red accents and dedicated badging, plus 18-inch wheels.

Inside, the cabin borrows a little nostalgia and a lot of intent. Sports seats echo the 205 GTi lineage and red stitching, seatbelts and carpets make the interior feel special. The steering wheel blends leather and Alcantara, ambient lighting is fitted and there is a selectable sound ambiance system to add theatricality or silence, as you prefer.

Peugeot has also confirmed the e-208 GTi’s starting price in France at 42,900 euros. That pricing underlines how manufacturers are positioning compact electric performance cars: capable, compact and pricier than their combustion predecessors, but aimed squarely at drivers who want agility plus emissions-free traction.

So, is this the true spiritual successor to the classic GTi? It aims to be. It’s compact, quick and cleverly packaged. The badge has evolved, and for buyers who want a punchy electric supermini, the e-208 GTi is the most direct answer Peugeot has offered yet.

Range swings with tyres? 233 vs 219 miles just from rubber seems a bit much, is that WLTP magic or will owners see 150-170 in winter? curious

Wow, electric 205 vibes! Love the power figures, 5.5s is wild for a supermini. Shame about the price though, kinda steep for a runabout.
