In Seoul, queues are forming for phones that aren’t ready to leave the factory yet. Shoppers who expected August deliveries now face new dates and longer waits — a sign that Samsung’s latest foldables have hit an even sweeter spot than the company predicted.

When demand outpaces planning, supply groans

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 family — including the Fold 8 Ultra and the Flip 8 — set new pre-order records worldwide, and South Korea is feeling the pressure most acutely. According to Business Post, inventory for the Fold 8 is depleted across almost every storage and color option in the domestic market. That shortfall has pushed the Fold 8’s shipping window from the original August 7 to August 28 for customers who place orders now.

It’s not limited to one model. The 1TB version of the Fold 8 Ultra is also slated to begin shipping on August 28. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 slipped too, with delivery estimates landing in mid-August — either August 11 or August 18 depending on color choice. Physical retail channels aren’t immune; brick-and-mortar pre-orders are backed up, with fulfillment potentially stretching into mid-September.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8: new delivery dates start August 28 (was August 7)
  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra 1TB: shipping now expected from August 28
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8: deliveries moved to August 11 or August 18 by color

Why the scramble? Samsung reportedly built about 40 percent more pre-order stock for the Fold 8 than it did for the Ultra. Still, demand outstripped even that extra buffer. Early estimates suggest Fold 8 pre-orders are roughly three times those of the Fold 7, and they’ve already reached around 80 percent of the pre-order volume Samsung saw with the Galaxy S26.

What does this mean for buyers and the market? For consumers, expect longer waits and potential frustrations in choosing configurations. Retailers will likely see uneven supply across colors and storage tiers. For Samsung, it’s a capacity and forecasting headache — but a welcome one compared with weak demand.

There’s a strategic angle too. Foldables are moving from niche curiosity to mainstream option. Production and logistics need to catch up. Fast.

Short term: patience. Medium term: Samsung must scale manufacturing and supply chains to match what appears to be a sustained appetite for foldables.
