That is the narrative behind a new set of renderings that reimagine BMW’s next-generation i4 as a high-performance coupe inspired by the M Concept Neue Klasse.

What the render brings to life

Artist Nikita Chuyko, working for Kolesa, didn’t simply slim a four-door i3 into a coupe. He grafted the aggressive cues of BMW’s recent M Concept onto a two-door body, producing a car that reads equal parts concept car and track tool. The front end is unmistakable: the study’s sculpted bumper, splitter and vented hood are all there, though the daytime running lights trade the concept’s yellow tint for a cleaner white. It looks at once familiar and thoroughly tuned for drama.

Small details sell the idea. Bulging wheel arches and deep side skirts give the silhouette muscle, while flush door handles and large rear three-quarter windows keep the lines clean. The mirror shapes feel grounded in production reality, a subtle nudge that this exercise is more than wishful thinking. At the rear, the imagined i4 M keeps things slightly more reserved — a trimmed bumper and the concept’s lighting signature, but nothing that screams show-car excess.

Painted in a saturated blue with dark trim, the CGI coupe looks ready to lap a circuit in silence. Big, bold wheels fill the arches and promise grip; the stance implies lowered suspension and a chassis tuned for corners rather than curb appeal. If BMW ever green-lights a two-door Neue Klasse M model, this is the visual shorthand someone in Munich could point to when explaining the brief.

Names are slippery here. BMW has yet to confirm an official successor to the i4, and even the next i3’s performance variant could land under several badges: i3 M, iM3, or something else entirely. That ambiguity carries over to this coupe; it could be called i4 M, iM4, or offered as a special M Concept Coupe Neue Klasse. The rendering doesn’t settle that question, but it does stake a claim for what a small, fast electric coupe from BMW might look like.

Speculation aside, the exercise is useful. It shows how the Neue Klasse’s design language could translate into a more focused, two-door package — and it highlights the tension BMW faces between futuristic concept flourishes and the practical tweaks required for production. Do you want the raw concept on the road, or a tamed, usable M with hints of show-car swagger? It’s a debate the brand will have to answer, if and when Munich gives the go-ahead.
