BMW M350 xDrive previewed with Neue Klasse design rendering

BMW says the new M350 xDrive pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for a combined 437 brake horsepower (443 ps/326 kW) and 428 lb-ft (580 Nm), and will do 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds with a 155 mph electronic top speed limit.

The M350 xDrive will replace the current M340i and serve as the range-topper between the standard 3 Series line and the future M3. The next-generation 3 Series will continue to offer four- and six-cylinder internal-combustion engines.

BMW’s claimed output represents a 51 bhp (52 ps/38 kW) gain over the current M340i and M340i xDrive, which make 386 hp (392 ps/288 kW). The current M340i rear-wheel-drive model does 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and the xDrive variant is about three-tenths quicker; BMW says the M350 xDrive trims the sprint to 4.0 seconds.

Equipment highlights announced by BMW include a Drift Moment function and over-the-air update capability. BMW shared images of a prototype online; Kolesa artist Nikita Chuyko used that tester as the basis for the digital illustrations published alongside the reveal.

Exterior changes for the M350 xDrive will include dedicated front and rear bumpers, exclusive wheels, the Neue Klasse vizor-style front fascia, slim elongated taillights and a quad exhaust arrangement that signals the higher-output engine.

The interior follows BMW’s recent layout with a wide lower windshield display stretching from pillar to pillar, as seen on the iX3, i3 Sedan and latest X5. BMW says the M350 xDrive will receive exclusive trim, upholstery and other model-specific touches.

BMW expects to premiere the M350 xDrive next year, with the model likely arriving as a 2028 model in the United States and Europe possibly receiving first deliveries. BMW indicated the M350 xDrive will cost more than the M340i; the current M340i xDrive starts at $64,300 and the rear-wheel-drive M340i starts at $62,300 in the United States.

For context, the base BMW M3 Sedan has an MSRP of $79,300, 473 hp and a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds. The M3 Competition Sedan makes 503 hp, does 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and starts at $83,500. The M3 Competition xDrive is rated at 523 hp, a 3.4-second 0-60 mph time and an MSRP of $88,600.
