Buick Readies 713-hp Electra Enkasa Minivan for China

Buick is preparing a dramatically more powerful version of its Electra Enkasa flagship minivan for China, with regulatory filings indicating a combined output of about 713 horsepower. The filing, lodged with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, describes a hybrid layout that pairs a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder driving the front wheels with an electric motor on the rear axle.

Powertrain and performance

The Electra Enkasa first debuted early in 2026 with both full-electric and plug-in hybrid variants. At launch, the strongest plug-in hybrid produced 620 horsepower and 775 newton-meters of torque, could accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 5.8 seconds, and—according to Buick’s figures—could cover about 1,320 kilometers on a single refuel and full battery charge. The newly disclosed hybrid increases the total system output to approximately 713 horsepower. Official acceleration times and battery details for the 713-horsepower model have not been published; Buick’s documents suggest the additional power will shave a few tenths of a second from the vehicle’s 0–96 kilometers per hour time.

Positioning the Enkasa with roughly 713 horsepower would place it among the most powerful production cars on the road and make it effectively unrivaled within the standard minivan segment. For historical context, Buick’s celebrated GNX carried an official rating of 276 horsepower, and even Buick’s classic muscle-era models did not exceed 400 horsepower. Buick will also offer more conventional variants of the Enkasa, including a base front-wheel-drive model powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Design, technology and interior

Buick’s designers say the Enkasa draws inspiration from Gulfstream private jets, aiming to create a "ground-level Gulfstream" through form and aerodynamic efficiency. The minivan’s drag coefficient is reported as 0.258. Technology highlights include doors with steerable operation and gesture controls to permit touchless entry. A selectable air suspension can lower ride height by up to 60 millimeters, which Buick claims produces the lowest entry height among its class in China.

The cabin is described as exceptionally luxurious, with materials such as Nappa leather, a suede headliner, and Australian wool carpeting. Second-row seats are specified as "zero-gravity" units that automatically adjust their angle relative to the first and third rows and can recline into a full rest position. Those seats include a 10-point massage system with eight modes and heating.

Buick intends to introduce both the updated base and flagship Enkasa variants to the Chinese market for the 2027 model year. Pricing for the new versions has not been announced; current Electra Enkasa trims are listed in the range of $65,550 to $70,000.
