iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery Leak: Real Capacity Revealed

A tiny white label on a battery just rewired the conversation around the next iPhone. Three images circulating from China show a cell marked 5,391 mAh, a number that dovetails with earlier whispers about the iPhone 18 Pro Max's physical-SIM variant.

Why the Pro Max gains matter

Put simply: two different builds, two different batteries. The photos line up with reports that the China-bound Pro Max, which still uses a physical SIM tray, will carry roughly 5,391 mAh. That makes it likely the eSIM-only global model will house the larger 5,567 mAh unit previously rumored. Small change for the Pro. Bigger change for the Max.

The iPhone 18 Pro reportedly comes in two flavors too: about 4,288 mAh for eSIM-only models and 4,056 mAh where a physical SIM remains. Compared with last year, the Pro's battery appears to rise by only about 1 to 2 percent. The Pro Max, by contrast, looks to get a 9 to 12 percent bump versus the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Does that mean dramatic extra screen time? Not necessarily. A larger cell is one ingredient. Software efficiency, display power draw and background tasks matter just as much. But in everyday use — streaming video, gaming, navigation — a single-digit percent increase on the Pro is likely to be barely noticeable. On the Max, though, nine to twelve percent more capacity could translate into a clear extra hour or two for heavy users.

There’s a practical reason behind this split. Remove a physical SIM tray and you free up internal volume. Phone makers have been using that reclaimed space to fit bigger batteries or shift components for better thermal management. If Apple ships an eSIM-only Pro Max globally, that extra room likely explains the larger 5,567 mAh figure we keep seeing in leaks.

One image, one number. Still, some caveats remain. Leaks can be accurate or stage props. Manufacturing tweaks can change final specs before launch. And Apple often pursues battery life improvements through chipset and software gains as much as raw capacity.

Real-world battery life may rise only slightly for the Pro, while the Pro Max is poised for a noticeable uplift.

Expectation setting is simple: Apple appears to be nudging the Pro forward modestly and giving the Max a more meaningful endurance upgrade. With the official reveal just weeks away, these battery photos add a sensible piece to the puzzle — and an extra talking point for anyone weighing size, battery life and whether to choose eSIM or a slot for a physical card.
