That rush is exactly what Ford is selling with the new Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible, the brand's first high-performance drop-top since the Shelby GT500 bowed out in 2013. It arrives carrying the same 795 horsepower as the coupe, but with an emphasis on unfiltered sound and open-air drama.

Built for wind-in-hair speed, not lap records

Ford's Racing team started with the coupe's chassis and its MagneRide suspension, then tuned the package for a different kind of excitement. Where the coupe chases lap times, the convertible is engineered for top-down grand touring. The soft top folds at the touch of a button. Simple. Fast. Liberating. Engineers kept as much of the coupe's structure and hardware as possible to preserve handling, yet the tuning prioritizes composure and everyday usability when the roof is down.

The heart of the car is familiar and brute: a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 producing 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque, or about 806 PS and 895 Nm. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Ford has not released official 0-97 kph or top speed numbers for the convertible, but expect performance close to the coupe's numbers: roughly 3.0 seconds to 0-60 mph and a 180 mph top speed when equipped with the Track Pack.

The convertible was officially unveiled in August 2026 and is slated to reach showrooms in spring 2027, with order books opening this fall. Pricing will be announced when orders begin.
