The OnePlus 16 was unveiled in China on Monday and went on sale there at 10 AM local time. An hour after the launch, OnePlus China president Li Jie posted on Weibo that the handset had already sold more than 70,000 units.

Li Jie said that total puts the OnePlus 16 in first place among this year's Android flagships based on comparable launch-period sales, calling the performance an increase that is rare in the industry. The company has not shared how many units its predecessor sold in the same timeframe, so there is no direct internal comparison available.

Specifications and pricing

The OnePlus 16 arrives with a 6.78-inch 1272x2772 LTPO AMOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 185Hz in supported games. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and is offered with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The camera array includes a 200MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, a 50MP ultrawide with autofocus and a 50MP front-facing camera. Power comes from a 9,000 mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The phone carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings and ships with ColorOS 17 based on Android 17. Pricing starts at CNY 5,999 (about $896).

OnePlus officially exited Europe and North America in July, so the OnePlus 16 will not be making its way to those markets. The brisk opening sales underline that the brand still has a substantial following in China. The company has not disclosed how many units its predecessor sold in the same timeframe.
